Overview

INEOS, one of the world’s leading petrochemical companies, operates a major site in Grangemouth, Scotland. The facility plays a central role in the UK’s energy and chemical supply chain, with safety and reliability at the forefront of every operation.

When the company sought to improve illumination across key access roads linking monitoring stations, they required a lighting solution that could perform in hazardous environments while meeting stringent compliance standards.

Objectives and Challenges

The Grangemouth site houses highly flammable materials, which means even routine infrastructure upgrades must account for explosion risk. INEOS needed lighting that could ensure safe movement of vehicles and personnel between critical monitoring points without compromising compliance.

Key requirements included:

  • ATEX Zone 2 compliance, ensuring protection against explosive atmospheres.

  • Consistent illumination of access roads for 24/7 operational safety.

  • Robust durability, withstanding harsh weather conditions typical of Scotland’s central belt.

  • Reliability and efficiency, minimising downtime and maintenance.

The challenge was not just to provide light, but to do so in a way that upheld INEOS’s uncompromising standards for operational safety.
